Soul of a Horn is a deeply personal love letter from acclaimed vocalist Lynette Washington to the legendary pianist and vocalist Shirley Horn. Washington’s fourth studio album, it was envisioned by Jason Olaine, Artistic Director at Jazz at Lincoln Center, to celebrate what would have been Horn’s 91st birthday on May 1, 2025. The project launched with two sold-out performances at Dizzy’s Club, Jazz at Lincoln Center. Produced and arranged by internationally renowned pianist Amina Figarova, the album captures the sparse phrasing, emotional resonance, and masterful pacing of Horn’s career. Washington’s co-crafted vocal arrangements add an intimate layer, balancing late night vulnerability with driving swing, with an all-star band guiding longtime jazz fans and new listeners alike.
