Spiros Exaras feat. Eugene Ruffolo - "The Magic Of Christmas"

Internationally acclaimed jazz artist Spiros Exaras brings joy to the world with his first ever original holiday single, “The Magic of Christmas”. Known for his impressive fusion of different musical elements, notably in his Greek- Cuban collaboration with Elio Villafranca, “Old Waters, New River” and in his signature Blue Note album “Phrygianics,” Spiros Exaras unites his resonant guitar sound, Don Braden’s distinctive sax, and Eugene Ruffolo’s smooth vocals to create what sounds like a future Christmas classic. The idea for “The Magic of Christmas” arose when Spiros’ daughter was studying abroad and was unable to join the family in decorating the Christmas tree. With love and imagination, Spiros and Ileana decided to co-write a song expressing the holiday cheer that magically unites people, no matter the distance.

Jeff Hamilton Trio – Merry & Bright – Capri Records

Acclaimed jazz drummer Jeff Hamilton delivers a swinging holiday album: Merry & Bright. Hamilton reunites with his trio, featuring bassist Jon Hamar and pianist Tamir Hendelman, for Merry & Bright, a recording of Hamilton’s favorite Christmas tunes. “I’ve always enjoyed holiday music and have been planning on doing a Christmas project for many years. I finally did it during the pandemic and got my trio into the studio to record it direct to 2 track, like I used to. We were very happy with the outcome. We put together these arrangements and got the recording done in only a few hours.” The tunes were selected from Hamilton’s memories growing up in a family where everyone gathered around the piano and sang Christmas tunes in four-part harmony. It was a time when Andy Williams’ version of “It’s the Holiday Season” was on the radio and turntables were everywhere in America. Two of the pieces, “Caroling Caroling” and “Bright, Bright the Holly Berries” he learned from The Singers Unlimited, whose textured vocal harmonies were reminiscent of Hamilton’s evenings singing with the family. Hamar and Hendelman open “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” in the spirit of the original, somewhat melancholy version sung by Judy Garland in “Meet Me in St. Louis.” Of course, Frank Sinatra’s version is one best remembered, as well as Mel Tormé’s, who wrote a beautiful new verse for the tune.

Chip Shelton - Special Days Each Year - Crystal Clear

This recording of various special occasion material finds him playing Tenor, Alto, Soprano, & Sopranino Saxophones (all by Yanagisawa, which he endorses). He also expands his Flute palette incorporating the rarely-heard Bb Flute D’Amore, Eb Flute, and Piccolo, alongside his familiar Concert and Bass Flutes. Shelton’s growth is further evidenced by his inclusion here of Bass Clarinet and Vocal features.

Reza Khan - "I See Stars" - Painted Music

During his musically formative years, one of Reza Khan’s most influential idols was Pat Metheny. The Bangladesh born and raised, NYC-based, composer guitarist achieved a lifelong dream when bassist Mark Egan – a founding member of the iconic Pat Metheny Group – became an integral part of his own band. Egan’s dreamy, soulful and hypnotic trademark bass vibes add an hypnotic transcendence to “I See Stars,” the latest single from Khan’s Imaginary Road album. Following the funky, high energy vibes of “Waiting for the Sky” and “Neo Funk,” the first two singles from Khan’s latest album Imaginary Road, his latest track “I See Stars” is the perfect dreamy and intimate soundtrack for a cozy winter night. Khan showcases the gentler, more sensitive side of his melodic guitar artistry amidst a mystical, caressing sonically intricate atmosphere where stars are invited to appear and inspire us like magic.

Michael J. Thomas & Maysa - "It's Christmas" - Harbor Breeze Records

The upcoming holiday celebrations need the perfect festive soundtrack – and #1 Billboard charting saxophonist Michael J Thomas and Grammy nominated vocalist Maysa are ready to start the party! Penned by Thomas and Maysa and produced by Thomas, Raymond Darius Jackson, Trammell Starks and Carl Griffin, “It’s Christmas” is 2021’s answer to Donny Hathaway’s timeless and much covered “This Christmas.” It’s a burst of joyful, sensual R&B/jazz funk that soulfully captures every aspect of the season – the great anticipation, the spirited gatherings, the love behind the gifts exchanged, the boughs of holly, the fireplace and the hot cocoa, with Santa fully on board. These bright, swirling images and emotions are brought home to all our hearts via Maysa’s incomparable vocals. The project breaks ground in the contemporary/smooth jazz genre as the first new original recording to utilize and be mixed with the revolutionary immersive Dolby Atmos technology. Its sonic design expands on existing surround sound systems by adding height channels, allowing sounds to be interpreted as three-dimensional objects.
